About Parent PLUS Calculator

Parent PLUS Calculator is a free, independent website for parents and graduate students working out how to pay for college under the federal loan limits that took effect on July 1, 2026. For the first time, Parent PLUS loans are capped at $20,000 a year and $65,000 per student, and Grad PLUS is closed to new borrowers. Most coverage of the change explains it in general terms. We built calculators that apply the rules to a family’s own numbers: how much can still be borrowed each year, when the cap is reached, what the origination fee takes, what is left uncovered, and what repayment will cost.

We are not a lender and do not sell or refer loans. We have no affiliate relationships with lenders or schools, and no one pays to be mentioned on this site.

The rules come from the Education Department’s final regulations of May 1, 2026, its loan limits FAQ, Federal Register rate notices and Federal Student Aid announcements. Where official guidance does not settle a question, we say so rather than guess.

How we keep this accurate

Every rule on this site is taken from primary sources — federal statute, agency guidance, and official state publications — and each page lists the sources it relies on. When a rule changes, we update the affected pages and the "Updated" date at the top of each page.

Our calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or stored.

Independence

Parent PLUS Calculator is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any federal or state government agency. We are an independent educational resource.
